Characters of Molotov Cocktail Burn

Abstract
Three hundred and thirty four cases of Molotov cocktail burn patients had been treated during 5 years from September 1988 through August 1992 at the surgical department of National Police Hospital.
@ES The autors reviewed our clinical experience of Molotov cocktail burn, and the results were as followings.
@EN 1) All of the patients were males, and the age distribution was restricted within the range from 18 to 25 years of age, because burned patients were members of the Riot Police consisting of healthy males of the above age range.
2) Molotov cocktail burn was most frequent in spring(37.7%) and autumn(32.6%).
3) The locations of burn were as follow; head and face 30.8%, hand 19.7%, lower extremity and perineum 17.0%, neck 15.0%, upper extremity 10.2%, foot 5.3%, anterior trunk 1.0%, back and buttock 1.0%.
4) Among 334 cases burned patients, 311 patients were under 9% of body surface, 18 patients were within the range of 10~19%, 5 patients, 20~50%.
5) Most of the patients(83.8%) arrived at the hospital within 24 hours after the burn.
6) Skin grafts were performed in 65 cases and most of grafts were done within 3 weeks(52.3%).
7) Most of the patients(80.5%) were healed within 30 days after the burn.
8) The main complications of burn patients were bound infection(8.1%), scar contracture(2.1%) in order.
9) In 6 cases of burn wound, the main organisms culture were Staphylococcus aureus(4; 44.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(2; 22.2%), Serratia species(2; 22.2%), Enterobacter species(1; 11.1%)
